A Guide To Dental Implant

Dental implants are required to replace one or many missing teeth. Replacing missing teeth is essential for an individual for various reasons like regaining self-confidence, retaining the food habit, preventing temporomandibular joint, clear speech and last but not the least, to keep the shape of the jaw and face perfect.

There are several types of implants, but the most common type is Root-form implants, it looks like a small cylinder or screw made from titanium. In the jaw bone, after an implant is placed in the bone grows into and around the implant. An abutment is basically attached to this implant. It also acts as the base for the dentures, crown or bridge.

Firstly, implants feel more natural with respect to dentures as they are embedded in the jaw bone and eliminate all the worry of slippage. Secondly, one can overcome the hassle of removing them at bedtime as an implant doesn't come loose like a denture. Thirdly, one can chew properly and have the taste of food properly that is mostly not possible with loose fitted and upper dentures. Lastly, sometimes denture affects the quality of speech but no such problem arise with implants.

Oral Care Tips For Your Implants

  1. Good Oral Hygiene: Brush and floss your teeth daily. Use interdental brushes which helps in cleaning the hard to reach the area around your Implant.
  2. Do Not Smoke: Smoking can lead to implant failure.
  3. Visit Your Dentist: Brush and floss your teeth daily. Use interdental brushes which helps in cleaning the hard to reach the area around your Implant.
  4. Avoid Hard Food: Chewing on hard items like ice or hard candy may damage the crown.

If you are considering implants, you must have healthy gums and enough bone to support it. Diligent oral care and regular visit to a dentist is the key to the success of your implants.
