Dental Bonding
Bonding is a process in which an enamel-like dental composite material is applied to a tooth's surface, sculpted into shape, hardened and then polished. It is one of the easiest and the most inexpensive cosmetic dental procedures i.e..it is easily affordable and a reliable procedure. Dental bonding is a branch of Adhesive dentistry. Adhesive dentistry, basically, deals with adhesion or bonding to the natural substance of teeth, enamel, and dentin. It studies the nature and strength of adhesion to dental hard tissues, properties of adhesive materials causes and mechanisms of failure of the bonds, clinical techniques for bonding and newer applications for bonding such as bonding to the soft tissue.
Bonding is a dental procedure in which a dentist applies a tooth-colored resin material (a durable plastic material) and cures it with visible, blue light. This ultimately "bonds" the material to the tooth and improves the overall appearance of teeth. Tooth bonding techniques have various clinical applications including operative dentistry and preventive dentistry as well as cosmetic and pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, and orthodontics.
The composite resin used in bonding can be shaped and polished to match with the neighboring teeth. Bonding finds a use for cosmetic purpose, frequently. There are various reasons behind it which include the following:
-
The appearance of a discolored or chipped tooth can be improved.
-
The spaces between the teeth can be minimized.
-
This can change the color of the teeth.
-
Also, the shape of the teeth can be altered.
Bonding is among the easiest and least expensive cosmetic dental procedures. Consumption of tea, coffee, a cigarette can stain the resin used in bonding. In order to prevent or minimize stains, avoid eating or drinking such foods and drinks during the first 48 hours after any composite procedure. In addition, brush your teeth often and have them cleaned every six months by a dental hygienist.
